Let me please start a new series of posts about cable lines, scheduled for 2024, with a comic comparison of the cable pulling process with the fishing. This is the real story that happened a couple years ago with 110 kV cable when it was pulled in a hilly city. For that 110 kV cable, two options were considered for laying the cable:
1️⃣pulling the cable along the route from the bottom up to the top;
2️⃣lowering the cable under its own weight from the top to the bottom.

Guys chose the second option. However, unfortunately, the cable drum with heavy cable on it was not equipped with a special forced braking device. A man with a wooden bar, similar to the left photo, decided to act as such a device. Unfortunately, he could not hold the cable, the cable drum was spinning faster and faster.

You can see the sad consequences of such a story in the right photo. Really expensive 110 kV single-core cable can no longer be used. It’s a great luck that everyone is alive and well.

If the cable is a fish, then it is very big fish! And you need a special fishing rod to catch it ! As well as an experience of such a fishing.
