Let’s fly, my dear metal-oxide surge arrester

Currently, there are a lot of switchgears where metal-oxide surge arresters (MOA or SA) are installed nearby other equipment. We can see MOAs very close to the power transformers, measuring transformers, cable terminations. Sometimes MOAs are installed directly on the tank of a power transformer or suspended above it. Unfortunately, operational experience shows that all the listed options can be dangerous and can lead to serious damages of the really expensive equipment. As an example, look at how a MOA flew into a nearby measuring transformer.

What can I advise here?
1️⃣ Do not believe those who tell you that the MOA has successfully passed the explosion safety test in accordance with IEC requirements, and therefore the MOA is absolutely safe for neighbors.
2️⃣ Please do not put the MOA in the immediate vicinity to other equipment.
3️⃣ Especially dangerous is the suspension of the MOA over other equipment.
4️⃣ If you are in a switchgear, then always stay away from the MOA.

Real life does not always go according to IEC. Unfortunately.
