Meters for surge arresters

The photo shows a monitor (meter) for metal-oxide surge arrester (MOA). The device combines two functions:

1️⃣ To measure the «conduction current» passing through MOA under the influence of the AC operating voltage of the 50 Hz frequency.

2️⃣ To count the «number of impulses» through MOA.

Both functions are absolutely useless! I will explain it in my next two posts.

However, unfortunately, due to the powerful lobby of manufacturers of such equipment, the situation is quite difficult to change. Such devices allow you to make money on supplies, allow you to bypass competitors during tenders. But these devices are absolutely useless and even harmful because waste your money and spend the valuable time of your service personal to check their readings. Let’s discuss it more deep.
